they neither see nor know!

Have you ever seen someone lighting candles for a dead loved one in the hopes that it will help them make it to heaven sooner? These were just a few of the things that I observed during my time in Kiev. There are numerous very ornate orthodox churches and I enjoyed the chance to see the incredible art and architecture. However, as the days progressed I felt my heart growing increasingly heavy as I observed the worshipers in these beautiful cathedrals praying to images that cannot see or hear. Oh how I longed to introduce them to the God who wants to commune with them personally. How I longed to introduce them to the one who sent His own precious Son to die in their place so that they could be assured of heaven without purchasing candles, prayers, priestly rituals or blessings. Orthodox beliefs have a strong hold over the people in the villages where we minister as well.
When I prayed with this lady at the end of our visit she asked "am I supposed to repeat after you?". The God they worship is very far away and best approached through saints or priests. They will often recite prayers but rarely utter words of their own to God. Their hope of heaven rests in the works they do and the payments that they or their relatives make to the church for certain rituals, prayers, or blessings.

“…Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one. Those who make an image, all of them are useless, and their precious things shall not profit; they are their own witnesses; they neither see nor know…” Isaiah 44:8-9

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

Pray with me for the light of the gospel penetrate the darkness and release these dear people from their bondage & fear!
