White Harvest Fields

Holly Friesen on June 23, 2010

Every time I see the beautiful fields of ripe wheat I am reminded of Jesus words to His disciples in John 4:35 “Do you not say, There are yet four months, then comes the harvest? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest”.There is just something exciting about wheat harvest time! This Kansas girl loves the sight of the ripe wheat and the combines at work in the fields with the grain pouring out into the trucks. I remember sitting on my Grandma’s porch in Moundridge and watching the line of grain trucks headed to the elevators. On a good year they would be backed up on her road for days and we couldn’t even get out of the driveway most of the day.

In case you didn’t know it, this area of Ukraine is very similar to the area of Kansas where I grew up and they also grow a lot of wheat.countrysidecountryside I got to see the grain in early June when I was out helping with a village clinic and it was looking good. But, I was afraid that it was going to be all harvested before I got the chance to visit the villages again. However, Miriam had another project that needed her attention this week and I was able to cover her clinic for her in Valentinovka on Tuesday. It was perfect timing! The wheat fields were gorgeous and the combines where just starting to work.

I was able to visit with Pastor Vlodya and I let him know I had friends praying specifically for his crops. He was very grateful and said the prayers are very much needed. However, he was quick to add – tell them to pray also for the work in Valentinovka. There will be some outreaches there this summer and with the provision of a meeting house we are praying that the Lord will make it possible for them to hold regular services there. It is evident that God is at work there: not only has he provided a meeting place but he has given Pastor Vlodya a burden for this village. I can’t help but believe that there are souls ripe for the harvest there! Pray that the Lord of the harvest would burden more laborers from the church in Makarovo for this outreach!
Here are a few more pictures from my day....
