Thanksgiving & Celebration

Holly Friesen on September 28, 2011

Ukraine does not celebrate Thanksgiving Day, but the churches have a tradition of having a harvest celebration each year. On Sunday some of the youth from my church participated in the harvest celebration at another small church plant on the outskirts of Odessa. We provided some special music and they provided us with some great food! As we sat around the table, the pastor asked people to share blessings that they had received this past year. How wonderful to hear one man testify that this year his wife and daughter were saved and to hear another man praise the Lord because His mother came to salvation!

This past weekend my church also celebrated their 15 year anniversary. I loved hearing more of the history behind the starting of our church as well as a number of other churches that were started by our "mother church" around that time. It was also a special treat to have Pastor Peter there. He is still battling cancer but recently has felt a bit better. We are still unsure what the long term prognosis will be, but are grateful that the Lord has given him some relief from his pain and increased strength in the last months. His joy in suffering and continued passion for ministry are a challenge to me! Click here to see pictures and video from the anniversary celebration.
